Black Oak Bowl

Black as ebony on the outside. shiny oak inside.

The wooden bowls created on the lathe are special products that are distinguished by their unique shape and demanding manufacturing process.
Each bowl is its own story, its beauty can only shine to the full if the designer listens to the material and adapts the shape to the structures of the wood, as shown in the turning process.

The outer wall of this bowl is blackened in the process of ebonizing, that uses a reaction between iron oxide and the natural tannins in wood to create a natural looking black, that is actually created in the fibers of the wood rather than a stain sitting on top. It is integral, not superficial, which is why it is also very durable.

The wood is polished to a silky sheen and surface protected with a mixture of oils and waxes suitable for contact with food. Products can be washed with a soft cloth and soap. If they lose their shine, restore it to them by re-lubricating them with wood care oil.
